3T MRI

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) uses a powerful magnetic field, radio waves and a computer to produce detailed pictures of organs, soft tissues, and other internal body structures. The images can then be examined on a computer monitor. MRI does not use ionizing radiation (x-rays), but detects the motion of protons that are normally present in the body. MRI has been used for more than thirty years in veterinary medicine to diagnose or assess brain tumors, slipped discs, spinal cancer, inner ear infections, liver shunts, ACL tears, lameness, and various joint injuries.

All MRI studies are read by a board-certified radiologist.

Neurological Diagnostics With 3T MRI

With our next-level 3T MRI we can accurately visualize and diagnose complex neurological conditions. Following completion of your pet’s imaging, we will facilitate referral as needed to a local neurology specialist for follow-up or surgery.

Note: SVI no longer offers onsite neurosurgery. Dr. Gainsburg remains available to answer questions about past cases and can be reached through our contact form.

All MRI studies are read by a board-certified radiologist.

Ultrasound & Echocardiography

With our state-of-the-art Samsung ultrasound system, and experience with thousands of cases, we can visualize disease processes more clearly and perform biopsies more accurately to get you the answers you need. Ultrasound is commonly used to diagnose a variety of conditions ranging from abdominal pain, locating obstructions, pancreatitis, enlarged abdominal organs, stones in the kidney or bladder, portosystemic shunts, and for guiding needle biopsies in which needles are used to extract a sample of cells from organs for laboratory testing. Echocardio-graphy is an ultrasound exam of the heart and great vessels. A complete echocardiogram provides more detailed information about the anatomy and function of the heart.

All echo studies are read by a board-certified cardiologist and ultrasounds by a radiologist.

128 Slice CT

Computed tomography (CT) uses x-rays to produce multiple images of the inside of the body, and provides thin, cross-sectional “slices” for viewing. CT scans provide much more detail than conventional x-rays. Radiologists use this specialized equipment and expertise to diagnose problems such as cancer, abnormalities of blood vessels, trauma, and musculoskeletal disorders. SVI uses a 128 slice Philips CT with 3D modeling capabilities to help you diagnose and plan treatment with confidence. With the first 128 slice scanner for pets in Texas and Utah, our CT is so fast that anesthesia is very rarely required to keep the patient still.

All CT studies are read by a board-certified radiologist.

Hyperthyroid I-131

At CATT - Our sister company, Centers for Advanced Thyroid Therapy - we perform diagnostic thyroid scintigraphy using a Crystal Cam device. and we treat feline hyperthyroidism with injections of I-131. Clinical signs of hyperthyroidism include secondary heart-disease, increased appetite, hyperactivity, increased thirst, weight loss, unkempt coat, vomiting, and diarrhea.

All scintigraphy and I-131 injections are performed by a board-certified radiologist under license by the State of Texas. We are the only licensed provider in Central Texas.

Through our sister company, the Animal Joint Institute, we offer an exciting new therapy for canine osteoarthritis. This FDA-regulated veterinary device is injected into the joint to directly treat chronic pain associated with osteoarthritis by reducing underlying inflammation.
